After 3 months of work in 2008, the Stoneham Mountain Resort has finally completed, to the cost of 750 000$, the construction of a permanent Olympic Super-Pipe structure. The installation will allow us to reduce by 60% the snow-making needs. Thus allowing us to open a lot earlier every season!
Open 7 days and 7 nights a week!
In addition, the super-pipe will be opened at night, one a few in North America! The global project, that included the purchase of a Zaugg (to sculpt the tank), excavation work and 3 permanent snow guns, also allowed for a flood light system, given the immense popularity of night skiing at the resort. The half-pipe therefore be open 7 days and 7 nights a week! Follow the events schedule to learn more about the exclusive events to be held there!
Maintenance: The half-pipe shapping is done daily on the top of the wall and in the bottom of it. About four times a week, the walls shapping is done. Consult our snow report online to get informed about it.
Construction completed: long term project
The excavation work for the permanent structure of the super-pipe had begun in September 2008. It was followed by many steps, including drilling and blasting the hill in order to create a natural, 8 foot deep bowl in the rock, and the erect 17 foot high walls with the debris. The new snow guns will complete the fabrication of the 22 foot high structure !
